Bio
Reynolds Rei is a composer, producer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and mixing engineer. His multimedia composition portfolio consists of a spectrum of genres, from Orchestral Symphony, Ethnic, Jazz, to Electronic, Soundscape and EDM to name but a few. His sonic palette, however, all centers around one characteristic, that is the duality between emotional, dramatic intensity and dreamy atmosphere. He specializes in fusing electronic soundscape and orchestral performance with the tension of rock & metal, while using flowing, emotive polychords as melodies to depict an auditory world.
Rei has worked with entertainment corporations such as Chimelong Group, Puy du Fou and official organizations such as Hong Kong Tourism Board, Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee, the Guangdong TV and the government of Guangdong Province, and individual artist Cai Guo Qiang to produce soundtracks for various forms of multimedia, interactive media audiovisuals and installations.
After his education at Emory University, Rei studied screen scoring at New York University and graduated from Berklee College of Music with a master degree in Creative Media & Technology.
Rei won multiple regional and municipal competitions in piano and drums performance at a young age. He also held two hour-long philanthropic piano recitals with the respective repertoire of Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven at Xinghai Concert Hall, Guangzhou, in 2010 and 2013, organized by the China Council of Lions Club, China.

The Quite Side of Music
Rhodes, synths, drumbeats, reverbs and distortions... Rei's artist project MRI Reverie could be summerized as cinematic art ballads with extended instrumental passages. As Trip Hop with hints of Ambient and Progressive Rock, it is watery, atmospheric, dreamy, but also suppressive, uneasy, provocative.
Designed to construct the "quiet side of music" -- a spiritual realm of solitary listening that differs from mainstream music, it creates a world contrasting between dry-wet, close-far, airy-distorted, delicate-intense tonalities, tailored to create a storytelling escapism and to convey a sense of intimacy or immediacy.
MRI Reverie explores the universe within self, focusing on the deep emotions of inter-and-intrapersonal experiences through introspective, subdued and ethereal sensory experience. The combination of progressive songwriting, dreamy textures and dynamic shifts induces a sense of immersion and evokes imagery of vast landscapes or serene environment that captivate the listener's imagination.
